The Legend of the Snow Queen

A wicked magician made a mirror that distorted all that it reflected, making good, evil. Fragments of the glass each having the power to pervert and corrupt fell to earth. Two friends, Kai and Gerda were playing when a splinter pierced Kai's eye and his heart, making him harsh and cruel.

One day he tied his sledge to a sledge of a stranger who whisked him away eventually to reveal herself as the Snow Queen. She kissed him. Her kiss was as cold as ice and went straight to his heart. He saw that she was the most beautiful woman that he could ever imagine. They flew away into the night sky.

Gerda set about finding her friend. She braved torrential rivers, robbers bandits, but a woodpigeon told her that Kai was in the palace of the Ice Queen and that all that could save him was the power of Gerda's love.

Gerda entered The Snow Queen's vast, empty white palace and saw Kai surrounded by shards of glass that he was trying to form into the word Eternity. She ran to him and flung her arms around him. He sat cold and motionless while Gerda wept hot tears that fell on his face and onto his heart. He wept and the shard of evil glass floated from his eye and fell with his tears. They laughed, made the word Eternity from the glass and ran away from the palace.

They returned home and lived happily ever after.
